Ben Jervey has been covering and working in the climate, energy, and environmental fields for a decade. He is the Blog Editor for OnEarth Magazine, the independent publication of the Natural Resources Defense Council, and a regular contributor to Desmogblog. He was the original Environment Editor for GOOD Magazine, and wrote a longstanding weekly column titled “The New Ideal: Building the clean energy economy of the 21st Century and avoiding the worst fates of climate change.” In 2009, he worked with the Global Campaign for Climate Action on their TckTckTck project, tracking the US position in the United Nations climate negotiations. He speaks regularly about New York City’s environmental movement, and of urban sustainability and the importance of cities and urban planning in addressing the major ecological challenges of our time, particularly climate change. He has also written for National Geographic’s The Green Guide, Men’s Journal, Sundance Channel's The Green, The New York Daily News, The New York Post, Men's Vogue, the Huffington Post, and many other online and print publications. His book—The Big Green Apple: Your Guide to Eco-Friendly Living in New York City—has been called the "bible of green living for NYC." For a couple years, he published sustaiNYC, a "reblog" covering NYC's sustainability scene.

Ben has served on the Advisory Boards of the Green Edge Collaborative and Just Food, two New York-based environment and food justice groups, and has worked for many other community and environmental non-profits, including Solar One, a non-profit renewable energy, arts and education center committed to inspiring New Yorkers to become more environmentally-aware urban citizens. In 2007, Ben was named to Interview Magazine's "50 Under 30 Pop List" for his work in environmental media. He traveled through the arctic on a climate change research expedition with Cape Farewell program, brought on board as a representative of American media. He also served as Rapporteur for Salzburg Global Seminar’s Sustainable Futures program, attending and generating summary reports of annual seminars.

He graduated from Middlebury College, where his interest in urban environmental issues began. He sat on the school's Environmental Council and studied Environmental Studies, Literature, and Geography, eventually presenting a thesis on Sustainable Cities, a concern that brought him to Curitiba, Brazil—the "ecological capital of the world"—where he spent months researching and working with the municipal planning board, gathering urban ecological solutions and ideas from this model green city. A bicycle enthusiast, Ben has ridden across the United States and through much of Europe.
