Climate skeptics are, not surprisingly, hitting the European speaking circuit in the weeks leading up to the U.N. climate summit in Copenhagen. But what is surprising is that notorious global warming denier S. Fred Singer was described at a skeptic conference today as a Nobel prize winner, a flat out lie.

According to a Belgian journalist who alerted DeSmog to Singer’s appearance today at a skeptic conference in the European Parliament building, Singer was described in event materials as:

The idea that Fred Singer shares any part in the IPCC/Gore Nobel prize is laughable, of course.  Other than Mr. Gore, the Nobel committee recognized only the IPCC authors, and they all received framed Nobel certificates.  If Singer can produce a framed Nobel, I’ll produce my Olympic gold medal (Singer must eat cereal too, I sure enjoy the prizes inside, although I’ve never seen a Nobel peace prize before).

Get elected president and go down as the worst in history. Don't get elected president and win the nobel peace prize and the hearts of millions around the world. Karmic, poetic but also bittersweet.

The Huffington Post reports that Bush will welcome Gore to the White House on Nov. 26th during an event to honour Nobel Peace Prize winners. While he's got him there, Bush might want to ask Gore on some tips on how to win friends and influence people - seems like being a greedy, ignorant, warmonger backfired.

A panel of UN scientists has fired an opening salvo for world political leaders meeting next month in Bali to negotiate a successor to the Kyoto protocol.

And it’s a stern warning of what’s at stake if governments fail to take action, far stronger than three previous IPCC reports despite lively debate – highlighted by objections from the U.S., China and India — among about 130 governments who gave final approval.

The fading National Post chose sides today: in a snarling attack on the Nobel Committee decision to award a Peace Prize to Al Gore, The Post went on to condemn other Nobel recipients, dismissing the work of Mother Teresa, the goals of nuclear disarmament and the heroism of UN peacekeepers - among whom Canadian soldiers have always played a major role.

The Post also badly misrepresented the judgment from a U.K. judge who has endorsed the continued showing of Al Gore's movie, An Inconvenient Truth, in U.K. schools.

What the Post has apparently failed to grasp is that, in any contest with Post business editor Terence Corcoran on one side and Mother Teresa and Al Gore on the other, Al Gore wins.
